Runaway Dog!

Luna's Husky side came out yesterday when she took off running and not looking back. She's over a year old (which I've heard is equivalent to the age of a human teenager) which makes sense with her defiant behavior. So you probably want to hear the story.

Unfortunately, I was not there, but Drew was since he had the day off. This is the story, according to Drew:

The day prior to the incident Britt and I could not let Luna out of her crate at lunch. She normally can handle the occasional 8 hour in the crate day, however, her Mother decided to go have a "spa day" with some of her lady pals. Unknown to me, who had a prior engagement. Subsequently, Luna spent 12+ hours in her crate. All alone.

Thursdays are typically my Saturday, so after sleeping in until 11:30 AM, Luna and I woke up. We made breakfast, or at this point, brunch. Luna ate some bacon, which sure was nice of me. Because I felt so guilty she had to stay in her jail cell for 12+ hours, I decided to take her to the dog park. We spent 1.5 hours there, which is about 45 minutes of dealing with dog park people than I can handle. When we got home, Luna drank some water and fell asleep.

At approximately 4:30PM, I took Luna for a bathroom break. She was leashed the entire time. When we reached our door, I unhooked her. She looked at me and walked towards the landing of the stairs. I told her "No", she looked at me, and basically told me to "Go F$&% yourself", and then sprinted down the stairs.

By the time I reached the bottom of the stairs, Luna was no where in sight. After repeated calls out to her and frenzied search effort, I grabbed my keys and entered my vehicle. I got lucky, Montana's parents (one of Luna's dog friends), called my phone and said they found her.

I was not too happy about her behavior, but relieved she was safe. When we returned home she had her head drooped down in shame, and chose to stay in her crate the rest of the night. The place where she was jailed for more than 12 hours the day before.
